Jay, Charlie and Military Maxi departed Cambria (on the Central Coast of California) early on Saturday morning, June 10th.

Notice the “package” on top of the tow vehicle?  You’ll see more of this later in the trip, but it’s a special car top tent from Cascadia Car Tents.

When the guys get further north, there will be many areas without access to hotels and they will be camping in bear country.  We expect this tent will be well loved during that portion of the trip.

Saturday was a long day, about 10 hours of driving, and Maxi is still “hidden” in the trailer.  They stopped to visit fellow Model A fan, Stu Slattery, in Chico, CA, and found their first bear in Mount Shasta City.

Here are some great views of Mount Shasta, the Castle Crags, a Thai dinner, and a new friend.

Sunday June 11, our adventurers made it into Oregon.  They spent some time with Bill Spencer, who has an AMAZING collection of tools.

They visited Terra Luna Inn to see James and Gail Ragsdale, who hosted our Model A Touring Club for a BBQ during last year’s Pacific Northwest Tour. Here’s an earlier photo when James signed Maxi.

After a long day, they settled in Wilsonville, Oregon.  First they checked in with Flynn, the Adjutant for the Oregon State headquarters of the American Legion.  Then Jay’s old Air Force buddy John Roskam met them and he finally got to sign Maxi — then proceeded to charm the waitress at dinner.

The next blog should take them through Washington and into Canada.  Stay tuned…

What an adventure —— along with a lot of amazing pictures. Having a tent on the top of a car sounds very safe and extremely useful since they are in bear country. Thanks for being so thorough with what’s happing and where.
