In the last post, Jay and Charlie were preparing to leave Spokane, Washington, but they took a step backwards! On July 17th, they returned to Okanogan where they had been on the 15th. Why? There apparently had been a 911 emergency at the hotel when they were ready to leave for Spokane, and in the confusion, Jay left his briefcase (with iPad and wallet!) in the room. Thankfully, the hotel located it as soon as he called.
The result as far as this blog goes is I have no more photos from the 17th. However, they drove to Hood River, Oregon, on July 18th — the drive was almost twice as long as it should have been, but featured many sights.
Chief Joseph Dam:

Originally the Foster Creek Dam, the River and Harbor Act of 1948 renamed the project Chief Joseph Dam in honor of the Nez Perce chief who spent his last years in exile on the Colville Indian Reservation. Because of its lack of fish ladders, Chief Joseph Dam completely blocks salmon migration to the upper Columbia River system.
Here are views of Dry Lake and Coulee City:

And a peek at Mount Rainier and a freight train by Yakima River:

Loved the Toppenish Railroad Museum and murals in Toppenish:

Stonehenge — Maryhill’s Stonehenge in Washington was erected as the nation’s first WWI memorial and dedicated in 1918 to the servicemen of Klickitat County, Washington, who died in the service of their country during the Great War. This Stonehenge Memorial is a monument to heroism and peace.

And, last but not least, is Mount Hood:

No, that’s not really steam coming from the volcano. Oregon’s latest cold front and strong winds helped simultaneously form a cap cloud and lenticular cloud over the peak of Mount Hood. Apparently, not that unusual of a sight
On July 19th the guys drove to Sisters, Oregon, where Charlie’s twin sisters live. Had a nice visit, dinner, and found a couple more veterans to sign Maxi.

They spent the night with the sisters in Sisters, and Jay said farewell to Charlie on the morning of the 20th. Charlie will be flying home from there, and Jay is moving on to visit friends in Verdi (near Reno, Nevada) . It was another long day’s drive, but at least I got a photo of Rick and Lori, good Model A buddies.

Jay spent the night in Verdi, and the next post will cover his mad dash to get home! I think he was lonely traveling without Charlie!
Pat Did Jay drive Maxi in the trailer home? Where does Charlie live? Excellent blog – great trip. Interesting adventures. thanks for sharing

Isn’t it nice to discover other trustworthy people — having a briefcase, I-phone and wallet discovered then held for the true owner — fantastic. The trip back did allow for some very interesting photo opportunities. Again – thanks for sharing. Wilma

It certainly took a village for a trip like this! So great a testament to friendships built over many years to have such a network .. and a helpful honest hotel on that briefcase mishap!
