Sunday, September 15 promised to be a relatively easy 188 miles heading north from Salmon Arm to a town called 100 Mile House, also still in British Columbia.

The sun came out!!! And we got some photos along the way… These are near Kamloops:

For lunch we stopped at Historic Hat Creek Ranch. I didn’t get any photos here, but its history is interesting.  In the early 1800’s, Simon Fraser and other explorers came this way to secure new territories for the fur trade.  Their efforts also led to discovery of gold. Beginning ins 1858, the gold rush brought thousands of prospectors to pan the banks of the Fraser and Thompson rivers.  By the 1860s the busiest destination for both people and goods was the boom town of Barkerville.  The Hat Creek Ranch was one of several ranches and roadhouses providing feed for the horses and accommodations for the drivers and passengers as well as a major stopover point for the wagons and states of the BC Expressline, popularly known as the “B.X.”

Then on to our hotel in 100 Mile House, but first we had to see the town Visitor Center which sports the world’s largest cross country skis.

At the hotel, the guys worked on cars again.  They got one going.  (It had been on the trouble trailer for two days, so that was a major success.) Terri’s car has problems but it is safe to continue driving.  One other car has just been picked up by the trouble trailer and may not be repairable on the road.

So glad to have Tim and his trouble trailer and all the mechanics to fix what can be fixed.

Ten of our group went to dinner in a nearby town.  The cute (and yummy) restaurant is called the Iron Horse Pub.  This is their “float” for an annual town parade.  As you can see, it is outfitted with lights they use for the parade.

Tomorrow, we’ll continue northward toward Quesnel.  See you there!

  1. Such a beautiful country. And now I’ve seen the world’ largest cross country skis. Must be a theme! Hope the cars behave better. Love the pic of them at a gas station.
