The goal for Wednesday, June 21st was the Yukon Inn, in Whitehorse. The itinerary says they’ll have two nights here, so it’s time to do laundry, car maintenance and food shopping. And maybe just relaxing.

The Chevy is obviously equipped to handle Northern Canada winters — see the plug for pre-warming the engine?
Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon and the largest city in Northern Canada. It is known as the gateway to the Yukon (and to Alaska, too.) It is home to eight main indigenous languages, each with multiple dialects. 25% of the population is of First Nations (Indigenous) descent. Animals include muskoxen, elk, caribou, thin horn sheep, moose and mountain goats, along with smaller mammals like Arctic foxes and Canada lynx.
The mosquitoes here are HUGE and rather aggressive. The guys are investing in mosquito netting to wear. (The carrots are also rather large!)

The sternwheeler above is the SS Klondike II, which is now a national historic site located in Whitehorse. It and its predecessor, the Klondike I, ran freight between Whitehorse and Dawson City along the Yukon River. When the highway connecting the two cities was built in the 1950s, many Yukon River sternwheelers were decommissioned. Klondike II was converted into a cruise ship for a while, but later was donated to Parks Canada which has restored her and she’s a popular tourist attraction.
Whitehorse also displays tribal art in the visitor center – and lots of murals around town.

Apparently, some of my posts have been too long and the number of photos have slowed delivery to some of you. So, I’m striving for restraint, and I’ll tell you about Dawson City in the next post.
Mine still has garbled descriptions of pictures, next to pictures. Otherwise nice pictures. Be safe out there,
Mel
