Before I continue with Jay and Charlie’s Tuktoyaktuk Adventure, could I ask a favor of some of you techie-type readers? (You can ignore this request if you are not techie!) Some readers are seeing computer code instead of some of the photos, and WordPress is trying to resolve the problem. If you have any problems with this post, could you please drop me a note (patburbank@att.net or leave a comment below) and tell me what device you’re using, what operating system and version, and what browser and version? Pointing out the specific problematic image(s) would also help.
Now, back to Dawson City in the Yukon!
Our Cambria friend Tim arrived on Saturday, the 24th. On the way to the airport, Jay and Charlie experienced the intersection with the Dempster Highway, a challenge waiting for them on Monday. See the “ghost” image on the left? That’s a truck. I would say the road is a little dusty! Maybe dust is good because if it’s wet the road becomes very slippery.

Welcome, Tim! Tim is no stranger to Model A trips, both as a Model A passenger and as a tow vehicle driver. I doubt that he can easily say “no” to an adventure, so here he is!

They drove to the top of Midnight Dome to get an overview of the area. (That’s placer mining down below.) Don’t worry about the shot with the mechanics — it was just time to adjust the brakes.

The colorful buildings above belong to Canada’s first casino — Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall. Nowadays it’s operated by the Klondike Visitors Association and all proceeds are re-invested in the community. Nice to see some of the old time history preserved and displayed for today’s visitors!
On Monday June 26th, Maxi and her three musketeers will actually begin their slow, rough journey on the Dempster Highway, heading all the way to Tuktoyaktuk and back if all goes well. We’ll have a few days with limited cell and wi-fi, so don’t hold your breath; just know that they’re trucking along and they’ll fill us in as soon as they can.
Hi Pat. This one came out clean. The past few had the incorrect code showing. I’ll forward some examples…

What an adventure this one is. They’ve already seen so many cool things. The highway sounds like a pretty good challenge and I’m sure Jay and the others are up for it. I hope he’s doing OK. Sometimes his face looks like he might be having pain. I guess he’s pretty much always got something going on, right?
I had trouble with some of the photos the last couple of days/posts. I’m on my iPad and that’s all I can tell you. I have no idea about anything else. Sorry I can’t be more help.
FYI, I signed the papers today for an apartment on Main Street. I will now be the upstairs neighbor of “granny had one “. I’ll be moving the end of this week. Another new adventure.

Hi Pat – this post looks good with no problems. Some earlier posts did have a bunch of extraneous text, and I couldn’t figure out what was going on. Thought it might be some spy code you and Jay were using to send messages to each other! Or the Aurora Borealis was active and altering email messages! Love this blog of the Canada drive.

Hi, Robert! Thanks for the info. The spy code is a good idea — especially since we’ll be totally out of contact for 2-3 days at this point!

Pat————— Another —— BIG THANK YOU —– for all the amazing photos of an outstanding trip —— one I doubt I’d be able to take – so the photos allow me to go on the trip virtually. What a fantastic collections of signatures — I’m impressed.
