Hello again! Maxi and the guys have re-established communication, and photos should be coming in soon. The last time I posted, they were getting ready to leave Dawson City on Monday June 26th. It was a relatively short day’s drive to their campground in Tombstone Provincial Park.

Their campsite was right next to a river with continuous small rapids. Pleasant.

The plan for Tuesday the 27th was to reach Engineer Creek Campground, but it was raining when they woke up, and continued off and on.

Unfortunately, when they reached Engineer Creek, the rain had left the campsites in two inches of slick, slippery mud. They decided to continue to the next planned stop in Eagle Plains. It was a long day, and the mosquitoes were thick, but at least the mud was easier to handle!

Several people have asked about this trip “to Alaska” but they haven’t gone to Alaska — the map below will show the part of Northern Canada they are traveling.

Dawson City, where they were for the last post is circled at the bottom of the map. I couldn’t find the first campground (June 26th) and the next yellow circle north is Eagle Plains, their camp for the 27th. The 28th is Tsiightchik, which we’ll cover in the next post. Inuvik is planned for the 29th and I’m not sure how long they’ll stay there, but they have to be in Inuvik for the July 1st All Canada parade. What an honor to be included in the celebration!

Probably the next day they will reach their goal destination of Tuktoyaktuk (the northermost yellow circle on the map) right on the Arctic Ocean. They are now in 24 hour sunlight!

  1. Nice the guys discovered they had no plans to dealing with mud —— so onward they went. The Tombstone airport certainly looks different than ALX — The quiet streams/rivers would be very comfortable to spend the night next to.
