Now that the guys know the lighting system for the back of the trailer is damaged, they are rushing to get to the city where they can get it repaired. As a result, I received only a few photos for Monday, July 10th…

The first photo is the obligatory “selfie” taken at the 0 mile marker of the Alaska Highway (aka the Al-Can Highway). The is the eastern end of the highway and it continues on into Alaska, but the guys don’t have time to visit Alaska, so this is all we get!

Post No Bills, Dawson Creek

We’re guessing this was some sort of informational sign post at the 0 mile marker but it’s so covered with stickers you can’t read anything. Charlie thinks the original message must have been “Post No Bills”!

The next photo is a collection (?) at the Junkyard Museum.

Dawson Creek

Yes, there was really a museum back there, but the guys were in a rush and didn’t go through it. They needed to reach Prince George by evening.

Tuesday, July 11th, was a day of great personal celebrations! The trailer had an appointment at 6 a.m. to get the wiring repaired. Matt and his wife Sienna, owners of M & S Trailer Repair and their technician fixed the wiring mess and had the guys back on the road by 9:30 a.m.

M&S Trailer Repair, Prince George

Yes, Sienna dresses like that to work in the office. Beautiful!! In any case, they were so taken with Maxi’s mission, that they refused to accept payment for the repair (other than a tip for the technician.) I get the impression than Canadians are incredibly supportive of their veterans.

The rest of the day was also a rush because the guys planned to meet friends and fellow Model A-ers Bob and Marilyn Krause tonight in No. Delta (a suburb of Vancouver.) Bob has Model A parts!

One quick visit was the town of Chetwynd. What caught the guys’ interest was a public art program, started in 1987, which showcases over 50 chainsaw carvings spread throughout town with a downtown monument that declares Chetwynd the “Chainsaw Sculpture Capital of the World”. Apparently their annual competitions attract chainsaw carvers from all over the world. I know the guys would have liked to survey the entire collection, but all I got was this photo:

I believe this carving is based upon the Legend of Setanta, but I’m a little confused. This seems to be an Irish legend. The internet says:

“Born SΓ©tanta, he gained his better-known name as a child, after killing Culann’s fierce guard dog in self defence and offering to take its place until a replacement could be reared, hence he became the Hound (cΓΊ) of Culann.”

Other sights along the route included Hixon Falls:

And some interesting iron chain art:

I believe the following photos are at 100 Mile House, because they’re captioned “100 mile skis”:

100 mile skis
100 mile skis

So, the second HURRAH! of the day happened shortly before dinner at Bob and Marilyn’s. They installed a REAL Model A fan on the water pump — and it works!!! Unfortunately, I don’t have a photo of it, or even of Bob and Marilyn. Maybe one will come in time for the next post.

Now that both the trailer and Maxi are healed, perhaps I’ll have more photos for the next post. They guys won’t be in such a hurry now!

  1. I am glad the adventure continues! And all the pics came through beautifully. Although I’m sorry to say Pat, it was obvious you were in a hurry. There are some typos.😟 I’ve always been impressed with how correct everything is.

    1. Hee, hee, Cat! Thanks. Usually I catch most of them, but this time I didn’t see any except the British spellings in the quote. Some days the eyes are better than other days… At least it looks like we resolved the photo-loading problem!

  2. In spite of the delay to get the tail light fixed – you did get some amazing photos. No, I never dressed like that for work. Love all the outdoor ART – especially the carving of the dog – regardless of the background story. What a tripβ€”β€”β€”β€” and still going. THX Wilma
