The guys are still in Washington on Sunday, July 16th. This first set of pictures is of the Grand Coulee Dam :

It’s HUGE! It’s 550 feet tall, which is big, but not as impressive as its width of 5,223 feet. For comparison, the largest dam close to us is Hoover Dam which is 726 feet tall but “only” 1,244 feet wide.
Much of the driving today was slightly boring, but they had fun visiting the old western town in Davenport:

Their lunch stop was in Reardon where they checked out grain silos and chuckled at some wall art:

And they arrived in Spokane early enough to check out the local parks. Those of you who know our friend Terri and her red Model A named “Radio Flyer” will get a kick out of this super-sized red wagon:

It’s over 30 feet long, including the handle, which is a slide for kids (including big kids.)
In the Riverfront Park, there is a sculpture walk, and “The Joy of Running Together” is one of our favorites!

Created by David Govedare in 1984, this steel sculpture depicts runners of all kinds, and celebrates the Spokane tradition of Bloomsday, one of the largest timed races in the world.
Before the guys left Spokane the next morning, they met with a very important facilitator in making this adventure possible. Remember the special car top tent from Cascadia Car Tents?

Well, they no longer need to use it, but was invaluable up in the far north, and Kris Savtgy of Cascadia Car Tents was instrumental in making it available for Maxi’s adventure. The guys met Kris, who is a veteran, and his dad in Spokane:

Kris’ dad signed for Grandpa.
Just two more scenic shots for today:

The first image is Little Falls which was originally a set of rapids along the Spokane River but a dam is now situated directly on top of the formation. The second shot is the Columbia River again.
Tonight’s destination is actually a step backward — to be explained in the next post.
Enjoyed all the art in the park. What a unique ‘home’ the little red wagon ——— pretty cute.
The old ghost town looks pretty interesting —— THX Wilma
