On Monday morning, September 16th, we lost our sunshine, but the rain was light and intermittent. Here are a few shots from first thing in the morning:

We stopped at the visitor center in Williams Lake, British Columbia, asking about local sights. It’s a really nice, large center with a local art gallery, a town history museum, a coffee bar, and friendly clerks.

Outside the visitor center is a monument celebrating Rick Hansen, a Canadian track and field paralympic athlete, activist, and philanthropist for people with disabilities. Following a pickup truck crash at the age of 15, Hansen sustained a spinal cord injury and became a paraplegic. He is most famous for his Man in Motion World Tour, in which he circled the globe in a wheelchair to raise funds for charity. The following shots show the monument constructed in celebration of his tour.

The sun came out again, and just up the street was a cute lunch stop, with a long mural of old cars.

Next, we drove by many of the town murals and statues. Here’s a sampling:

At this point, Terri’s clutch went out. She and Jay switched cars and we drove straight to our hotel in Quesnel, with just a few drive-by photos.

Today’s mileage was a mere 131 miles, and we got the afternoon off. We’ll stay in Quesnel one more night with a tour of the 1800’s gold rush town of Barkerville on the schedule for tomorrow.
